Casa Torrox is located in the Andalucian village of
Torrox. The village is
about 35 minutes east of Malaga just set back in the hills - the typical
Spanish whitewashed village. The unique position of Torrox also means that you
are also just 5 minutes drive from the beach. Casa Torrox is about 5 minutes walk from the village square complete with orange
trees, fountain and a handful of local bars and restaurants. (to get to the
square you walk down three flights of steps so if you have problems with
walking then Casa Torrox is not for you).
The house itself is 300 years old and a Spanish neighbour told us it used
to be a mill. It certainly used to be two houses and we finished the
restoration last year to create a spacious, luxurious home. The layout is as
follows:
Ground floor:
Upon entering through the old wooden door you come into the first reception
room, with exposed beams, which is used as a dining room in the winter. It has
a wood burning stove - which you will not need in the summer. On this level
you have a large fully fitted kitchen and a cosy lounge, also with exposed
beams, with satellite TV, DVD and BOSE iPod dock. There is also a bathroom
with WC and bath/shower. From the lounge you go out on to a lovely terrace
with settee and two armchairs.
The views from here are fab as you gaze out to the Tejeda mountains.
From this terrace there is a staircase up to the second floor where you have
the small pool and two more terraces. This is our favourite spot at night as
the views, silence and privacy are fantastic.
Second floor:
From the reception room/dining room stairs lead to the second floor. Here we
converted three rooms into a large master bedroom with exposed beams. This has
a kingsize bed, dressing area, separate WC and bathroom the roll top bath, two
washbasins and walk in shower. There is a door that leads out to a terrace at
pool level.
Patio:
From the reception room/dining area there are French doors that open on to
wide steps leading to the patio. We have restored this to resemble a Moorish
courtyard - complete with overhanging vine. In the patio is a large table that
seats six, small fountain and many old lamps and candles. Off the patio are
two further bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. The double
bedroom also has an-en-suite shower room with walk in shower and washbasin.
