A West Cork Break at Riverbank Cottage

Cosy cottages for couples don’t come better than this. Holiday cottages for couples come in all shapes and sizes but with a double jacuzzi in the bedroom and a large woodburning stove in the lounge they don’t get cosier than this. A luxury cottage gives you more space, more privacy and more value for money.Riverbank Cottage and Riverbank Barn are authentic 150 – year old traditional stone buildings that have been restored to offer luxurious self-catering accommodation. They are linked by a south-facing conservatory and can be rented as separate units or one large property.

Riverbank has been described as like a scene out of ‘Postman Pat’ – the quaint hump-back bridge spans the small river that gives the property its name and each afternoon at about 3pm the An Post van passes, signalling the rush hour.

Upon entering Riverbank Cottage you experience the feeling of being in an authentic cottage. Low ceilings, exposed beams and stone walls dominate but the modern luxuries are all here. Two settees face the large fireplace containing a woodburning stove. There is a large pine dining table seating 4-6. and there is satellite TV, DVD player, iPod dock and CD player.

Through the metre wide thick walls you enter the galleried kitchen into what used to be the grain store. All the regular kitchen appliances are here and on the mezzanine floor above the kitchen is a reading gallery. The sofa here converts to a double bed and can be used as a second sleeping area (not suitable for small children as it is in a gallery)

But it is the bedroom that enchants. The old fashioned iron bed reminds you of days gone by but the double bedroom jacuzzi and flat screen TV provide modern day luxury. There is a separate bathroom with shower and second WC.

The buildings are enclosed by a stone courtyard and in front of the property, a small meadow slopes down to the small river. The location is peaceful and beautiful.
