Our bills in Paco’s covered the following:
10 glasses of Rioja
4 mini-hamburgers
1 tapa of pork with almonds
1 tapa of prawn cocktail
1 tapa of veal in tomato sauce
1 plate of local cheese
For the record, the word tapa means lid. In days gone by, when you were having a drink in a bar in Spain, the barman would place a saucer on top of the glass to prevent flies paying a visit. They used to put a little snack on top of this which is how tapas originated. However, more recently Spanish bars have reverted to giving the tapa for free to attract customers – and Paco’s Bar is one of those …… so
The mini-hamburgers and tapas were all free. The plate of local cheese was €3 and the glasses of Rioja were €1 each. So our total bill for two, covering 2-3 hours was just THIRTEEN EUROS.
